Preferred Draft Plans
At the February Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved new boundaries for the intermediate schools. The new zoning map is linked to the left along with a list of subdivisions/apartments/other addresses that will be rezoned.

Current 7th grades are allowed to remain at their present school if they provide their own transportation. Please contact your current campus if you have a current 7th grader that will remain for their 8th grade year.

Child-care transfers to schools projected to be at or near capacity will only be approved after the teacher transfer date after school opens if the receiving school has capacity to receive them.

Klein ISD appreciates your support in our efforts to maintain appropriate student populations during this growth period.

Intermediate Attendance Zones
Klein ISD has been reviewing attendance zones for the intermediate schools prompted by the opening of Ulrich Intermediate. Ulrich is located on Spring Cypress near Hwy. 249 in the western quadrant of the district. In studying the long range forecasting for intermediate student growth, it is important to note that intermediate schools in the eastern and northern parts of the district are also in need of relief as they are already or will soon be over capacity.

We handle over capacity schools with temporary buildings until such point as the cafeteria and other common spaces will no longer handle the students appropriately. With the current economic downturn, it would be very difficult financially for the district and an extra burden to the taxpayers to build an additional intermediate school and staff it when we have schools that are not over capacity. In a high growth school district, it is not uncommon to rezone students as needed being prudent to not rezone any one intermediate age student twice during their three years.

A zoning committee comprised of over 80 parents from across the district, teachers and administrators met on two occasions. These meetings were publicized on the district website, in local newspapers as well as on KleINTOUCH. During these meetings, the committee reviewed four options and gave input on each of these as to which option would be the best for the district as a whole. They also offered many changes and adjustments to the options for consideration. The administration reviewed these options thoroughly. The preferred draft zoning plans were posted and public comments were accepted through January 31.

The district held a community forum on January 7th at the Klein Oak auditorium where we took comments and questions. The comments were all reviewed and considered and then the final zoning plan determined. Dr. Cain presented this final zoning plan to the Board at the February meeting requesting approval. The approved plan is linked to the left.
