What is AVID?

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a sixth through twelfth-grade program that helps prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. AVID is an academic, regularly scheduled, school-day elective class that is 40% tutorial in setting and works to bring out the best in students and closes the achievement gap.

The three main components of the program are:
  • academic instruction
  • tutorial support
  • motivational activities

AVID is a state approved course and students in high school receive elective credit for the course each year.  The AVID Program is offered at Klein Forest HS.
