What is AVID?

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a sixth through twelfth-grade program that helps prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. AVID is an academic, regularly scheduled, school-day elective class that has a proven track record in bringing out the best in students and in closing the achievement gap. .

The three main components of the program are:
  • academic instruction
  • tutorial support
  • motivational activities
