The Mission of the Klein ISD Gifted Program
The mission of the Klein Independent School District Gifted Education Program is to provide learning opportunities that challenge and develop the abilities of identified gifted students as well as to provide resources for their parents and community.
Gifted Program Core Beliefs
All children of the Klein Independent School District identified as gifted and served by the Gifted Education Program will reach their full educational, emotional, and social potential.

Our core beliefs are:

  • While all students have academic strengths, not all students are gifted.
  • Students may be gifted and talented in one area or in multiple areas.
  • Gifted and talented students have unique and varied cognitive and affective abilities and needs.
  • Gifted and talented students appear in all populations.
  • Gifted and talented students should learn in an environment where their gifts and abilities are acknowledged, valued, and nurtured.
  • Gifted and talented students require adequate support to maximize their academic potential.
  • Gifted and talented students must be active participants in and share responsibility for their own learning.
  • KISD Service Design
The Klein Independent School District services gifted students in the core subject areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Program services for Kindergarten students begin March 1st as mandated by the state. Curricular compacting, lesson differentiation, Texas Performance Standards Project, curricular presentations, and academic competitions are some of the many curricular options afforded to gifted students in the regular classroom setting in grades 1-5. All of the above gifted program services are provided in open-enrollment Pre-AP, AP, and Pre-IB/IB (KOHS only) classes at the secondary level as these rigorous courses stimulate higher level thinking as well as provide opportunities for academic advancement and the attainment of advanced measures.

    GT Identification Process

The Klein Independent School District uses a two-stage, ongoing process. The identification process collects both qualitative and quantitative data to identify students who exhibit potential and/or perform at levels significantly beyond the norm in areas of superior cognitive ability and/or specific academic achievement. Publishers indicate that assessment scores are representative of a student’s ability for two years; therefore, ability assessment scores will be honored for two years, with the exception of Kindergarten. All GT testing data will be placed in the child’s cumulative folder.
