Klein Forest Elected State President School at State TASC Competition

The Klein Forest student council was named the 2012-13 State President School by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) at the convention held April 1-3, 2012, in Arlington, Texas. KFHS students earned this honor through two days of campaigning, a skit designed to share their platform “Every Monday Matters,” held a candidate meet and greet, manned a booth, and delivered a one minute speech to more than 5,000 students at the convention. TASC is a non-profit organization that serves high school and middle school student councils and is sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP). The TASC’s purpose is to develop leadership abilities in students, promote democracy as a way of life, and establish and uphold high standards for local councils. Bria Taylor, Klein Forest student council president will represent TASC during the next school year as she travels throughout the state and nation at speaking engagements, leadership workshops, board meetings and the TASSP conference in June 2012.

Klein ISD Takes Five Top Spots in the Fincher Museum Student Art Contest

The Klein ISD had students win five of the top 12 places at the 2012 Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts Student Art Contest held April 9, 2012. KISD students competed against more than 172 students from across Northwest Harris County. The winners included: Alkiko Scott (Klein Oak) and Than Tway (Klein Forest) first and second places, respectively, in Division I; Oscar Alwjandro Martin (Kleb Intermediate) third place and Anna-Sophia Lagos (Ulrich Intermediate) Jurors’ Selection for Division II; and Charles Danna (Frank Elementary) first place in Division III. The artwork is on display at the museum from April 16-29, 2012, and the student awards reception starts at 1 p.m. on Sat., April 28, 2012, at the museum - 6815 Cypresswood Dr., Spring, TX 77379.

Doerre Student Earns Second Place in the State Geography Bee

Jacob Brown, Doerre Intermediate seventh grade student earned second place in the State Geography Bee held March 30, 2012, in Bedford, Texas. Geography Bees are held annually in fourth through eighth grades throughout Texas. Each school-level winner took a qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society, and the top 100 scores were selected for the state competition. The Geography Bee is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject and increase public awareness about geography.
