First the first time in nine years, the Klein Oak girls soccer team has advanced to the UIL 5A Soccer State Championships held April 19-21, 2012 at the Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas. KOHS knocked off A&M Consolidated (1-0 OT) and Garland Sachse (1-0) on Sat., April 14, to win the 2012 Region 2 Championship. The Lady Panthers boast a 25-1-1 record and next face Plano West (21-3-4) at 11 a.m. on Thurs., April 19.

The KOHS girls squad has had a longstanding history of state berths, as the program won its last state championship in 2003. The Panthers were the favorite to win districts heading into the 2012 season, and took on the motto “It’s not about me,” which they have put into action. Head coach Becky Cobb said that although her team is evenly matched on paper with Plano West, it’s what is not in the scouting report that sets her team apart.

“The teamwork and chemistry is present with this team because they play unselfishly and everyone contributes,” said Cobb. “They went into this season expected to win and they were able to handle the pressure and succeed. Not only do I expect great things, I feel so honored to work with such an amazing group of young ladies and I am enjoying the ride!”

The winner of Thursday’s match-up will advance to the finals at 11 a.m. on Sat., April 21. For more information and bracket, visit www.uiltexas.org/soccer/state.
