August 18, 2011—The Touchdown Club of Houston named a student-athlete from all four Klein ISD high schools to its 2011 Preseason All-Greater Houston High School Football Team. Quarterback Nicky Baratti (Klein Oak), quarterback Matt Davis (Klein Forest), defensive back Ryan Santos (Klein Collins) and linebacker Ben Weaver (Klein High) were tabbed on this year’s watch list.
The winner will be announced at the end of the 2011 season, with one offensive and one defensive player chosen among the field of 30. Last year David Santos from Klein Collins won the Defensive Player of the Year accolade.
For the Panthers, Baratti had 136 completions on 237 snaps last season. The quarterback also tabbed 188 carries for seven touchdowns, totaling more than 2,000 yards rushing during his career.
After missing the 2010 season due to injury, Davis returns to lead the Golden Eagles at the quarterback position. In 2009, he led the district in scoring after throwing for 1,453 yards and 17 touchdowns, including rushing for 1,565 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Defensive back Santos is a three-year starter for the Tigers, leading his team with 179 tackles and eight interceptions, including two interceptions ran back for touchdowns during his career.
Also entering his senior season, Weaver leads the Bearkats at the linebacker position totaling 84 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and two pass deflections.
