Spring Musicals Begin Later this Month

This spring musical season is sure to be a crowd-pleaser featuring comedies, a murder mystery, and the classic, Sweeney Todd.

 

Klein High School presents Sweeney Todd, a musical thriller with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. Set in 19th century England, the musical details the return of barber Sweeney Todd to London after 15 years of exile, to take revenge on the corrupt judge who banished him, by conspiring with a local baker. Show times are as follows:

                Jan. 27 & 28 at 7 p.m.

                Feb. 2, 3, 4, & 6 at 7 p.m.

Klein Forest High School presents In the Heights, a musical with lyrics and music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, based on the book by Quiara Alegria Hudes. The story tracks a three-day period, involving characters in the largely Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City. Reserved tickets are $12 and show times are as follows:

                Jan. 21, 26, 27, & 28 at 7 p.m.

                Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.

Klein Oak High School presents Curtains, a musical mystery comedy from the book by Rupert Holmes, with lyrics by Fred Ebb, and music by John Kander. The musical is a send-up of backstage murder mystery plots, set in 1959 Boston, MA, and follows the fallout when the supremely untalented star of Robbin’ Hood of the Old West is murdered during her opening night curtain call. Reserved tickets are $12 and show times are as follows:

                Jan. 27 & 28 at 7 p.m.

                Feb. 3, 4, & 6 at 7 p.m.

Klein Collins High School presents Once Upon A Mattress, a musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. First written as a shorter play, at the Tamiment adult summer camp resort, at which Jack Sydow was present. The show got expanded for the Broadway stage. Student tickets are $10 and adult tickets are $12. Show times are as follows:

                Jan. 26, 27, & 28 at 7 p.m.

                Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.

                Feb. 2, 3, & 4 at 7 p.m.
