All persons wishing to volunteer in Klein ISD elementary and intermediate schools will undergo a criminal background check. This proactive stance is provided for in Texas state law (Texas Education Code § 22.083). The decision to do so is not meant to discourage or offend volunteers, but to ensure the well being of our most precious resource ñ our students. For purposes of definition, volunteers are non-Klein employees who render service and/or work with students in a Klein school. Klein Independent School District conducts criminal history checks on all applicants for employment in the school system. Because the safety and security of our students is of primary importance to us, background checks will also be conducted for volunteers. Many school districts across the nation, state and in our area screen volunteers working in the schools with a criminal background check in the same manner.

Assuring the public that the adults working with our students are free of past criminal convictions will be one more step in assuring safety and security in our schools. We believe every parent will agree that we should make every reasonable precaution on behalf of children. The form for criminal background check is to be completed in addition to a Sign Up Form .

Volunteers are always appreciated in our schools. The education of our students is a partnership between the home and school. Your commitment as a mentor and role model for students is a valuable contribution and makes a difference in each classroom and for each student. For this reason, we encourage you to complete the attached application.

2.Click on the Form button below to retrieve the Criminal Background Check form. Once you have completed it, you must mail it to the Klein Police Department, attention Criminal Background Check, 16503 Stuebner-Airline Road, Klein, TX 77379-3299 (or if you prefer, you may obtain a pre-addressed envelope from your child’s school for mailing).

3.Click on the Sign Me Up! button below to complete the online volunteer information application. Your approval can not be processed until you have completed and submitted the registration information after clicking the Sign Me Up! button as well as sending off the Criminal Background Check form.

4.To make any changes in your volunteer status, please follow these steps: (for previously approved volunteers)

• If you want to change your school, add a school or change job assignments, click on the link below, download and complete the Volunteer Change Form.
• The Volunteer Change Form should reflect ALL schools you wish to serve and ALL job assignments not just your additions. This means you may have multiple schools and assignments marked.
• Send Volunteer Change Form to your school office so this information may be updated in the district’s central database.
