Klein ISD was selected as one of approximately 10 school districts in Texas to participate in the TXU Solar Academy in 2008. The primary aim of the program is hands-on renewable energy education for students. In order to facilitate the hands-on learning, TXU donated an operational 1,000 watt photovoltaic (PV) system. The solar panel system was installed adjacent to Kleb Intermediate in September, and data from the system is available through the internet. The donation also included training and hands-on materials for over 40 KISD science teachers. Training was provided in October by National Energy Education Development (NEED).
