Evidence from research points out that experiences in the arts increase other skills for students. For example, studies have shown students who play a musical instrument obtain a boost in their spatial IQ needed for success in complex mathematics.
Secretary of Education, Rod Paige, stated in a recent letter to school superintendents: "...the arts are a core academic subject under the No Child Left Behind Act. I believe the arts have a significant role in education both for their intrinsic value and for the ways in which they can enhance general academic achievement and improve students' social and emotional development." The arts are alive and well in the Klein ISD as an important facet of a well-rounded education.
