The PTA or Parent Teacher Association organization maintains a public relations profile for national school support. The national PTA is a formal membership organization headquartered in Chicago, IL with over 100 years of history working for children. PTA members are offered benefits in exchange for group dues. The PTA has a long list of high-profile affiliations. A portion of membership dues are forwarded to the state and national leadership. The PTA will continue to be a significant association for years to come.
The Parent Teacher Organization or Parent Faculty Organization are more recent and non-structured organizations that may or may not collect dues, have local guidelines rather than follow national rules, and pay little or no affiliation dues. These groups are most often single-school groups that operate under their own bylaws. Klein ISD has provided a group non-profit status for organizations that do not want to seek non-profit status on their own. Information on financial matters is provided on a separate PTO page. The Public School Network in Washington, DC has provided suggestions for building school support in communities.
