Crossing Guards
The Crossing Guards work 177 days each school year and are responsible for the safety of the students at designated school crossing zones. The crossing guards are assigned in the morning before school and again in the afternoon as school is dismissed.
The job description is as follows:
  • Have a pleasing personality;
  • Be able to work effectively with students and patrons as determined by the crossing guard coordinator;
  • Must be able to develop a working relationship with principals;
  • Must be at work assignment each day for the 177-day school session;
  • Must be willing to work in inclement weather for extended periods of time;
  • Must abide by all rules and regulations outlined in the crossing guard procedures and directives manual;
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously for time periods of one (1) hour or more;
  • Reports to the Crossing Guard Coordinator;
  • Will be subject to assignment as determined by the Chief of Police;
  • Must attend a four (4) hour paid traffic control training class.
  • Position requirements are:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License or picture ID
  • Must have transportation
  • Must meet Immigration and Naturalization requirements The crossing guards enjoy the interaction they have with the students they come in contact with daily and take comfort in knowing that these children will get to school safely and return home safely. Several of the crossing guards are mothers and retired individuals that want to have some flexibility with their time and this part-time job affords them this. Also, we work only when the children are in school so the crossing guards are able to be home when their children are.
