A Guiding Coalition is a volunteer team of Klein ISD stakeholders from across the district who are committed to leading and supporting a collaborative change effort to improve student learning and performance. We are kicking off two teams of passionate, innovative folks who will meet monthly to build support structures that transform the work of teaching and learning in our district. One Guiding Coalition will focus on our English Language Learners and the other will support our special education students. Each Guiding Coalition will create a shared vision, select initiatives to achieve that vision, and recruit others to participate in these endeavors.
In studying student performance data for our school district, it is immediately clear that we needed to work collaboratively as a team to support our English Language Learners and special education students. Currently less than 10% of ELLs and special education students in Klein ISD graduate college-ready in English Language Arts and Math. These are critical areas that must be met with a tremendous sense of urgency and collective responsibility from educational leaders serving at both the campus- and district-level.
On October 11th and October 13th, the guiding coalitions for special education students and English language learners respectively met to begin looking at ways to improve teaching and learning for these students. We will continue to update this page with new information as these dedicated educators work to find better ways to meet the needs of all learners.
