Bad Weather Information

As we approach next week, we want to inform you that Klein ISD is closely monitoring the weather forecast in partnership with local weather authorities. 

Current models indicate the potential for wintry precipitation in conjunction with freezing temperatures beginning late Monday and continuing into Tuesday, possibly extending into Wednesday.

At this time, this is NOT an announcement of any school closures or delays. Our primary goal is to keep you informed as we track the weather and assess any potential impacts on school operations. Any decisions regarding schedule changes will be communicated promptly through our official channels, including the district website, text messages, and email.

In the event of a school closure next week, please be aware that there may also be cancellations of extracurricular activities. We encourage families and students to stay informed with the sponsor of their specific activity for updates regarding these potential cancellations or rescheduling.

In the meantime, we hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend and enjoy time with your loved ones.

Under most circumstances, a decision to close school due to bad weather is made by 5:30 a.m. If enough information is available, school district officials may make a decision the night before and families will be notified before 10 p.m.

If school is closed, the announcement will first be posted on the Klein ISD homepage and this page. Information will also be posted on the Klein ISD Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Finally, families will be notified by automated phone calls, texts, app alerts, and email through the SchoolMessenger notification system. It is important that families keep their contact phone number current in Skyward Family Access if they want to receive notifications.

The information will be sent to local television and radio stations as well. Because of the large number of school districts in the area, the television and radio announcements are sometimes delayed 30 to 45 minutes.

Klein ISD takes the safety of our students and staff very seriously. In the event of inclement weather, we have personnel designated to drive sectors of the district during the early morning hours to determine if the major roads are passable.

The superintendent also coordinates with other neighboring districts to make decisions about closing schools due to weather conditions. Factors for consideration include flooding throughout the district, impassable roads due to high water, icy patches on major roadways and bridges, and weather predictions for later in the day.

Please keep in mind that with 88 square miles of land in the Klein ISD, some areas may experience minor flooding or icy patches for a short period of time, but the majority of the district may not be affected.

Families are encouraged not to call the school offices since no employees are answering the phones late at night or early in the morning. The Klein ISD website, Facebook, and Twitter are the quickest sources of information for a school closing.
