Counseling & Whole Student Wellness

Klein ISD's counseling program focuses on whole student wellness so that every student will "level-up" and engage in rigorous learning and build the skills necessary to develop their full potential.


Counseling Program
Guidance services will be available to all students. Counselors are ready to give personal, educational, and vocational counseling and guidance whenever it is needed. The scope of the services provided by the counselors includes orientation,  information-giving, individual and group counseling, placement and scheduling, standardized test result interpretation, identification of students with special abilities or needs, parent consultations, and referrals to outside agencies. Parents are encouraged to call the counselor for information or assistance on any matter concerning a student.

Elementary Counseling Program

In Klein ISD, each elementary school has a school counselor to assist students and parents/guardians with educational, personal, and career development aspects of the student’s growth. In order to provide an effective guidance program in the elementary schools, the following guidelines have been formulated.

  • The primary focus of the program is directed toward educational guidance with emphasis upon direct contact with both parents and students
  • Conferences with students and parents are encouraged
  • Group guidance directed toward meeting the needs of a specific group of individuals is scheduled in addition to individual conferences
  • Counselors use available data to assist students and parents in planning the educational program

The guidance curriculum is designed to help students acquire age-appropriate knowledge and skills within the scope of the following content areas: Self-confidence development; Motivation to achieve; Decision-making, Goal-setting, Planning, Problem-solving skills; Interpersonal effectiveness; Communication skills; Cross cultural effectiveness; and Responsible behavior. Parents are encouraged to contact the school counselor for any assistance the student needs.

Secondary Counseling Program

Secondary Counseling Program

The Secondary Counseling Program assists students as they develop the skills they need to enhance their personal, social, educational, and career development. The scope of the services provided by the secondary counselors includes:

  • orientation
  • information dissemination
  • individual and group counseling
  • placement and scheduling
  • pupil appraisal
  • interpretation of state-mandated assessments
  • identification of students with special abilities or needs
  • parental consultations
  • referrals to outside agencies
  • Other topic activities as deemed necessary and appropriate

Parents are encouraged to call the counselor for assistance on any matter concerning the students.

College Information:

Students may secure information regarding scholarships, college selection and admission, college entrance examinations, housing, financial aid, and other college information from the counseling office on each campus.

Educational Guidance:

Each student works closely with his/her guidance counselor to ensure an appropriate course selection for each semester. Guidance counselors also assist students with study skills, time management, and goal setting for both short- and long-term goals.

Personal Guidance:

Counselors are available for consultation with both student and parent/guardian in areas that affect the student’s personal/social domain of life.

Character Education
In Klein ISD, we focus on the whole student so that every student will " level up" and engage in rigorous learning and build excellent character. New for the 2021-22 School Year and beyond, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Positive Character Traits will be integrated with Character Education on campuses Kindergarten - Grade 12 in accordance with House Bill 1026, passed by the 86th Legislator.

The TEKS and our Klein ISD Profile of a Learner guiding document together provide the support needed for Whole Student Character Development.
