‘A’ Rating for Financial Integrity in Klein ISD 21 Years in a Row

For the 21st straight year, Klein ISD earned an “A” rating from the State, receiving the highest Superior Achievement rating from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).

FIRST awards have been awarded for the past 21 years. Klein ISD has always received a Superior Achievement “A” rating, the highest ranking available from FIRST.

"Our finance team is outstanding, and their ongoing commitment to ensuring Klein ISD's strong fiscal management of taxpayer dollars in our community is remarkable," Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. "This  'superior' rating is a testament to how our district thoughtfully utilizes funds to ensure high-quality instruction and excellent learning outcomes for every student in our care."

The primary goal of FIRST is to achieve quality performance in managing school districts' financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas' school finance system.

"I am very proud of the collective efforts of our finance team for continuing the tradition of excellence by earning the highest possible rating of ‘Superior Achievement’ in the State’s financial accountability system." Chief Financial Officer Dan Schaefer said. "This is the culmination of the ongoing and diligent work Klein ISD puts into managing the funds we are entrusted with from our taxpayers and the State."

The FIRST rating system was adopted during the 1999 Texas Legislative session and was implemented in 2003 for the 2001-2002 fiscal year. The intent was to expand the public education accountability system to the financial services area. Its primary goal is to achieve quality performance when managing financial resources in Texas school districts.
