Evangeline Mitchell Makes History as Texas History Teacher of the Year
Klein High School's Ms. Evangeline Mitchell has been named Texas's History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
This recognition of Ms. Mitchell as Texas’ History Teacher of the Year is a testament to her outstanding achievements and the incredible difference she has made in the lives of her students and other teachers across our school district.
In the ever-changing landscape of education, one thing that remains constant is the profound impact that dedicated teachers have on the lives of students. Ms. Mitchell embodies this truth, a shining example of excellence in history education.
"I have always considered it a great honor to be nominated for any award, but I was amazed to receive the email that I had been selected as the Texas recipient of the Gilder Lehrman History Teacher of the Year award,” Ms. Mitchell said. “I am humbled to be acknowledged among the incredible educators that work to facilitate the exploration and understanding of history."
With a deep love for the subject and an unwavering commitment to her students, she has fostered an engaging learning environment from the vastly extended learning of her own that goes beyond textbooks.
"Congratulations to Ms. Mitchell on this prestigious award,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. "We are so fortunate to have her in our Klein Family, and I am so proud to see her excellence in the classroom honored at the state level as the Texas History Teacher of the Year."
Ms. Mitchell is a Klein ISD alumna and started her journey as a student at Nitsch Elementary, Klein Intermediate, and Klein Forest High School. The dedicated educator is in her 24th year of teaching and serves on the Digital Experience Committee for the Texas Council of Social Studies. She writes "Teacher Tips," a blog and social media experience to help teachers each month. Ms. MitchellI is also a part of the teacher communities for Retro Report and C-Span Classroom.

Finalists for the National History Teacher of the Year award will be selected in September, and the overall winner will be announced in October.
