Happy Birthday, Theiss Elementary: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence

Theiss Elementary took a trip down memory lane as they celebrated 50 years in Klein ISD.

For this 1970s birthday bash, Theiss transformed a modern-day classroom into a vintage classroom for students, families, and community members to enjoy. 

Visitors were transported back in time to experience what school was like for students who attended Theiss the year it opened. The classroom showcased an exhibit of Theiss memorabilia, allowing visitors to reminisce and have a little fun as they played the original Oregon Trail on a vintage Apple computer. 

“We are thrilled to celebrate Theiss Elementary’s 50th anniversary—a milestone that reflects our school’s rich history of excellence and deep-rooted connection to the community. Named in honor of the Theiss family, one of the founding families of the Klein area, our school stands as a testament to their legacy and the strong traditions that have shaped generations of students,” Theiss Elementary Principal Jessica Taylor said. “For five decades, Theiss Elementary has been at the heart of this neighborhood, fostering a love of learning, building lasting relationships, and inspiring success. This celebration helps us look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence for many years to come!”

Theiss has a long history of academic excellence, as well as a history rooted deep in Klein, Texas, thanks to its namesake Jacob Theiss.

Moving to Texas from Germany, Jacob Theiss and his family became part of the Klein founding families and settled in the Klein area in 1854, purchasing 557 acres of land for $700. The family became a pillar in the community as Jacob Thiess was also a founding member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

It was an honor to celebrate with members of the Theiss founding family, whose legacy of love and dedication continues to shape this amazing school community,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. McGown said. “Seeing generations of educators, students, and families come together to reflect on the impact of Theiss Elementary was truly inspiring and nostalgic. Here’s to the rich history and bright future of Theiss Elementary!”
