Klein Forest Band Director Jesse Espinosa was selected as the Houston-area educator recognized alongside the State Teachers of the Year as part of the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yards for Teachers event at the National Championship Game.

“The College Football Playoff Foundation celebration of teachers was spectacular. I was in awe throughout the weekend’s celebration because of the genuine appreciation and love displayed by everyone we encountered,” Mr. Espinosa said. “I want to express my gratitude to the Country Music Awards (CMA) Foundation for nominating and selecting me for this special honor. I owe being in this position to my faith, family, and outstanding students. It will be a time I will never forget. Thank you to Klein ISD and Klein Forest High School for giving me the opportunity to continue to do what I do best…teach band to children.”

With thousands of Houston-area teachers to choose from, Mr. Espinosa made a lasting impression on the CMA Foundation when they visited his classroom years ago.

“His passion for music and providing his students with a state-of-the-art program was inspiring,” CMA Foundation Executive Director Tiffany Kerns said. “When our incredible partners at the College Football Playoff Foundation wanted to highlight the work of a worthy music educator in Houston, we knew exactly who to call. Jesse is an amazing example of an educator who goes above and beyond for his students, school, and community.”

Under his leadership, Klein Forest High School’s band student musicians have been involved in countless opportunities to compete and showcase their talents on a larger scale. Most importantly, Mr. Espinosa has helped foster and support a music community in all the Klein Forest family of schools with a helping hand and deep camaraderie with his fellow fine arts educators.

“Mr. Espinosa has been an awesome addition to Klein Forest and our Klein Forest family of schools,” Klein Forest Principal Lance Alexander said. “He extends his talents outside the walls of Klein Forest to ensure that our future Golden Eagles can enter Band with confidence and reassurance. He is an irreplaceable member of our school community.”

Congratulations to Mr. Espinosa on this incredible honor—we are so grateful to have him representing Klein ISD with so much Golden Eagle pride at every level!
