Kleb Intermediate Awarded $7,472 from KEF for ‘Flashlight Fridays’ Grant
Kleb Intermediate recently received a grant from the Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF), sparking an exciting opportunity for students to immerse themselves in independent reading in a completely new and engaging manner- by equipping each student with an LED flashlight to use for their reading time. This initiative aims to foster a love for literature.
In a surprise visit orchestrated by the KEF Celebration Express, the school was honored with the grant in the presence of Foundation directors, community members, and our esteemed Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown.
Amidst an atmosphere of joy and excitement, the Kleb Intermediate staff welcomed numerous Foundation supporters disembarking from the Celebration Express school bus. They presented substantial grants to the recipients, including Kleb Intermediate.
The $7,472 grant, generously sponsored by Satterfield & Pontikes Construction Company, will empower Kleb Intermediate to equip students with LED flashlights and offer a selection of 30 carefully chosen novels to fuel their reading journeys.
Preceding the inaugural Flashlight Friday session, English Language Arts teachers will encourage students to track their independent reading minutes on the Beanstalk App for a week, setting a baseline for the project. Students will be motivated to increase their independent reading minutes and monitor their progress. Each week, the two students in every English Language Arts class exhibiting the highest growth in minutes will be recognized with a certificate, a featured mention in the Kleb Newsletter, and acknowledgment during morning announcements.
“We are honored to be able to award this unique and creative grant to Kleb Intermediate where students will be able to enjoy independent reading in a whole new way,” Community Relations and Klein Education Foundation Director Christy Spisak said.
This fall, the KEF Celebration Express distributed grants totaling $79,134, enriching educational experiences for our learners. These grants encompass various innovative and engaging projects, from initiatives focused on Math fluency to those enhancing Literacy. The Fall 2023 grant recipients are not only innovative but also serve as a source of inspiration.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to all our grant sponsors whose contributions have made these initiatives possible. Your support plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational journey of every Klein ISD student.
The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications biannually, encouraging, facilitating, and acknowledging creative projects that drive academic success for our Klein ISD students.
