Klein Cain Awarded $7,030 from KEF for ‘Emotional Support Animal’ Grant

Klein Cain High School recently received a grant from the Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) to create a more positive and supportive environment for students, staff, and the entire school community. The initiative intends to incorporate an Emotional Support dog into various school settings like classrooms, common areas, and counseling sessions to maximize its impact on daily school life.

In a surprise visit orchestrated by the KEF Celebration Express, the school was honored with the grant in the presence of Foundation directors, community members, and our esteemed Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown.

Amidst an atmosphere of joy and excitement, Klein Cain staff welcomed numerous Foundation supporters disembarking from the Celebration Express school bus. They presented substantial grants to the recipients, including our very own Hurricanes.

The $7,030 grant, generously sponsored by Texas Exterior Systems, will empower Klein Cain to certify eight student handlers through the Alliance Therapy Dogs Jr. Handling program.

The main educational goals of this initiative focus on students' emotional, social, and cognitive development. Studies show having an emotional support dog present will offer students a unique learning experience, promoting empathy, emotional regulation, social skills, responsibility, and teamwork through active participation in the dog's training.

“We are thrilled to be able to award this grant to Klein Cain High School where it will make such a positive impact for so many students,” Community Relations and Klein Education Foundation Director Christy Spisak said. “We are so grateful to our dedicated donors who help us to bring these grants to life.”

This fall, the KEF Celebration Express distributed grants totaling $79,134, enriching educational experiences for our learners. These grants encompass various innovative and engaging projects, from initiatives focused on Math fluency to those enhancing Literacy. The Fall 2023 grant recipients are not only innovative but also serve as a source of inspiration.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to all our grant sponsors whose contributions have made these initiatives possible. Your support plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational journey of every Klein ISD student.

The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications biannually, encouraging, facilitating, and acknowledging creative projects that drive academic success for our Klein ISD students.
