KLEIN, TX — Klein Cain High School junior Alejandro Michelena made school history at the UIL State Swimming Competition.

Alejandro Michelena, a standout athlete from the team, brought home the silver medal in the 100-yard freestyle event. This achievement is not just a personal victory for Alejandro but a monumental occasion for Klein Cain, as it represents the school's first-ever State swimming medal.

“The countless amounts of 5 AM wake-ups, 6,000-yard practices, and race repeats finally revealed themselves when I saw that I was podiumed,” Michelena said. “While the post-swim feeling is amazing, it’s the unwavering dedication my teammates and I exhibit when no one is watching that truly makes it all worth it. The hardships we encountered at Districts and Regions to make it to State were just enough to reveal the determination and resilience of the group of guys I had beside me. It was this brotherhood that was the key to our success at State, making it a great season with a great ending—I wouldn’t trade it for anything!”

The path to this historic achievement was anything but easy. Under the guidance of Coach Travis Subda, who is in his second year with the team, Klein Cain swimmers have adhered to a rigorous set of expectations. Coach Subda's philosophy centers on continuous improvement and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
"I am extremely proud of our kids," Subda said. "When I came to Klein Cain, we established standards and expectations that are not easy to maintain day in and day out but would inevitably lead to these types of results with time. This dedication to excellence has not only culminated in a state medal but also fostered a team spirit and work ethic that sets an example for future generations of swimmers at Klein Cain."
