Klein Cain Tutoring Club Takes School by Storm

Klein Cain Mu Alpha Theta students have found a way to help their school community by providing a school-wide math tutoring program.

Swasti Singh (junior) knew she wanted to help her school community in a big way. Last year, she approached her Mu Alpha Theta sponsor, Ms. Rashmi Soni, with an idea on how to help her fellow students.

Initially, Swasti wanted to provide tutoring for all subjects to all students. After meeting with Ms. Soni, it was decided that the group should start by offering math tutoring only. With that, Swasti, along with her fellow Mu Alpha Theta members Aneesh Vathul, Phuong Nguyen, Brian Kim, and Jocelyn Rich, got the ball rolling on the Klein Cain Tutoring Club.

“Many students need help in math, and often peer tutoring does help them understand better,” Swasti said. “Also, teaching a subject strengthens your knowledge, so this club benefits both the student being tutored and the tutor.”

This tutoring opportunity is offered to all students in all math levels, with a Mu Alpha Theta member who will tutor. Tutors will be qualified to assist their peers in any math level they have already taken and passed.

Tutoring is available every day after school, excluding Wednesdays, in Ms. Soni’s classroom. While tutors can sign up to tutor any session they qualify for, they must review the math concepts before they begin the session to ensure their peers are getting the most out of the session.

Next year, the group plans to expand the tutoring program to include all subjects. The club’s founders plan to collaborate with the History, Science, and English Honor societies to provide this same service on a larger scale.

These outstanding Kids in Klein are forever learners with true servant’s hearts! Thank you all for your dedication to your fellow Hurricanes.
