Klein Forest High School Awarded 7,220 from KEF for ‘Young Writers Con’ Grant
KLEIN, TEXAS – Klein Forest High School has been awarded a Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) grant for the "Young Writers Con" program, aimed at providing a creative outlet and growth opportunity for student writers across the district.
In a surprise visit orchestrated by the KEF Celebration Express, the school was honored with the grant in the presence of Foundation directors, community members, and our esteemed Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown.
Amidst an atmosphere of joy and excitement, the Klein Forest High School staff welcomed numerous Foundation supporters disembarking from the Celebration Express school bus. They presented substantial grants to recipients across the district, including Klein Forest High School.
The $7,220 grant, sponsored by Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, will fund the Young Writers Con event, a unique writing conference that allows 7th to 12th-grade students to participate in engaging workshops, competitions, and activities focused on creative writing. This grant supports Klein ISD's writing initiative by fostering creativity and collaboration among young writers.
Students will have the chance to self-select from 14 workshops, enter up to 10 competitions, and explore 18 writing-based activities. Published authors Joy Preble and Crystal Allen will deliver the 2025 keynote address, sharing valuable insights and advice for aspiring writers. The event is further supported by 35 Klein ISD teachers facilitating workshops and activities and assistance from the Klein Forest National Honor Society, Klein Oak National Honor Society, and the Barbara Bush Library.
“The KEF is thrilled to support and invest in this exciting program where students will have the chance to unleash their creativity in this exclusive writing conference,” KEF Director Christy Spisak said.
This fall, the KEF Celebration Express distributed grants totaling $61,357, enriching educational experiences for students across Klein ISD. These grants fund various innovative projects, from interactive technology tools to unique conferences like the Young Writers Con. The Fall 2024 grant recipients exemplify creativity and inspire the educational community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all grant sponsors who made these initiatives possible. Your generosity enhances the educational journey for Klein ISD students.
The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications biannually, supporting creative and impactful projects that foster academic success.
