Klein High School received a Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) grant to fund the ‘Score Big with Behavior’ program. The program uses intramural sports to aid in improving the behavior of students.

In a surprise visit orchestrated by the KEF Celebration Express, the school was honored with the grant in the presence of Foundation directors, community members, and our esteemed Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown.

Amidst an atmosphere of joy and excitement, the Klein high staff welcomed numerous Foundation supporters disembarking from the Celebration Express school bus. They presented substantial grants to the recipients, including Klein High.

In the 2022-23 school year, Klein High introduced intramural sports as an incentive to improve behavioral, social, and academic outcomes. The program is open to all non-varsity sport students. The requirements to play include passing weekly grade and discipline checks, passing four or more classes, not having served OSS/ISS, having a low number of tardies, and low office discipline referrals. Students must also complete a mini-character lesson before game time, exhibiting skills such as showing respect and personal responsibility.

Klein High will use the $3,500 grant, sponsored by True North Consulting, to provide the materials to expand and support multiple sports programs, including basketball, football, and soccer, and to allow students to participate at no cost to them. The ultimate goal is to see intramural sports launch as an initiative at all Klein ISD high schools.

“Anytime a school can get students involved is a PLUS! Student involvement and competition is a wonderful formula to bring out the students, especially in secondary schools,” Klein Education Foundation President Bill Lakin said. “Good friendly competition not only engages kids physically, it also develops people skills, camaraderie and opens doors to meet others in their peer group. I am thrilled that we are able to help the students at Klein High School grow their culture!”

This fall, the KEF Celebration Express distributed grants totaling $79,134, enriching educational experiences for our learners. These grants encompass various innovative and engaging projects, from initiatives focused on Math fluency to those enhancing literacy. The Fall 2023 grant recipients are not only innovative but also serve as a source of inspiration.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to all our grant sponsors whose contributions have made these initiatives possible. Your support plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational journey of every Klein ISD student.

The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications biannually, encouraging, facilitating, and acknowledging creative projects that drive academic success for our Klein ISD students.
