Klein ISD Board Adopts Lowest Tax Rate in 32 Years
Klein, Texas – The Klein ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to set a new tax rate of $1.01 per $100 valuation during their meeting on October 7, 2024. This rate is the district's lowest in 32-year years. It also marks the lowest maintenance and operations rate legally allowable by the state of Texas without facing a reduction in state aid to the district.
The Board initially proposed this lowered rate at their September 9, 2024, meeting. The new tax rate reflects a decrease from last year's rate of $1.03 per $100 valuation.
Klein ISD taxes represent one portion of annual tax bills. The Klein ISD portion of a resident’s yearly tax bill will decrease by $4.07 per $100,000 valuation. Although Klein ISD’s tax rate has been lowered, taxpayers may still pay more in taxes than last year as a result of increased property values and other taxes.
Even if individuals are required to pay more in taxes, school districts do not receive more funding. School districts receive the current state-determined basic allotment of $6,160 per student. Despite increasing inflationary rates and a state budget surplus, the basic allotment has remained the same amount since 2019.
