Leadership in Action - Klein High School, Chick-fil-A, and the Million Book Giveaway
Lindsey Yancey

In the heart of Klein High School, a group of motivated students has come together to form the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy, aiming to cultivate leadership skills through a partnership with the iconic fast-food chain. This dynamic group seeks to develop their leadership abilities and make a tangible impact on their community.

The Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy is a national high school program focusing on "Impact Through Action." Our Klein High Student Leaders, led by beloved math teacher Ms. SharDe’ Wynne, take part in Learning Labs, which delve into real-world leadership principles that empower students to become leaders in their communities.

The academy's curriculum is created by Chick-fil-A, Inc., ensuring students receive valuable insights from a company known for its commitment to excellence and community involvement.

“I joined this program because it sounded like a great opportunity to volunteer and learn from a great company,” said Senior Landon Lau. “I hope to learn more organizational and leadership skills while networking with students nationwide.”

Their inaugural service project, the "Chick-fil-A Million Book Giveaway," was in collaboration with Chick-fil-A, Inc., where students from across the nation made the goal to distribute one million books to various beneficiaries, including local charities, elementary schools, and non-profit organizations. The students themselves took charge of packaging and delivering the books to 5 Klein ISD elementary schools. Each child in the school took home a book, a Chick-fil-A gift card, and a handwritten note from members of the group.

“We want to spread literacy to the elementary schools in our family of schools,” said Freshman Kharmen Wells. “I had so much fun delivering the books to the elementary school and talking to younger students about our Leadership Academy.

Leadership and service go hand in hand, and we are so proud of the student leaders at Klein High School who are creating a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond the classroom walls.
