KLEIN, TEXAS – Mahaffey Elementary School has been awarded a $4,025 Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) grant for their "MAP: Masters at Play" program, designed to provide kindergarten students with opportunities for purposeful play that fosters creativity, cognitive development, and academic growth.

In a surprise visit orchestrated by the KEF Celebration Express, the school was honored with the grant in the presence of Foundation directors, community members, and our esteemed Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown.

Amidst an atmosphere of joy and excitement, the Mahaffey Elementary staff welcomed numerous Foundation supporters disembarking from the Celebration Express school bus. They presented substantial grants to recipients across the district, including Mahaffey Elementary School.

Sponsored by Salas O’Brien and spearheaded by grant writer Addison Proctor, the "Masters at Play" initiative aims to level the playing field for kindergarten students by equipping classrooms with the tools necessary for purposeful play. These play centers challenge students to expand their imagination while developing critical thinking skills through real-world simulations.

Teachers will curate play areas stocked with resources that promote engagement and learning across various domains, from character education to reading and math skills. Students will explore activities that involve reading, solving problems, and creating new ideas, all while enhancing their social skills, creativity, and academic knowledge.

“We are truly grateful for this generous grant which will give our kindergarten students the tools for purposeful play and growth. Your support helps us create engaging experiences that challenge their imagination, skills, and academic strengths,” KEF President Bill Lakin said.

This fall, the KEF Celebration Express distributed grants totaling $61,357, enriching educational experiences for our learners. These grants encompass various innovative and engaging projects, from interactive technology tools to writing conferences. The Fall 2024 grant recipients are innovative and serve as a source of inspiration.

We sincerely thank all our grant sponsors who have made these initiatives possible. Your support plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational journey of every Klein ISD student.

The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications biannually, encouraging, facilitating, and acknowledging creative projects that drive academic success for our Klein ISD students.
