Nitsch Elementary Principal Wins Terrel H. Bell Outstanding School Leadership Award
Klein, TX – The Klein Independent School District proudly announces that Mr. Frank Ward, Principal of Nitsch Elementary School, has been honored with the 2023 Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership.
The Terrel H. Bell Award recognizes visionary school leaders who have transformed their schools into beacons of excellence. Nitsch Elementary’s recent recognition as the first Klein ISD elementary school to receive a 2023 National Blue Ribbon Award is a testament to the transformative work going on inside the school.
Named after Terrel H. Bell, the Secretary of Education under President Reagan, this award is given annually by the U.S. Department of Education in partnership with the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the Association for Middle-Level Education, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
"I'm deeply honored to receive the Terrel H. Bell Award,” Principal Ward said. “This recognition is not just for me but for our dedicated staff, resilient students, supportive parents, and community who make Nitsch Elementary a special place. We've worked collaboratively to overcome obstacles and set our students on a path to success. This honor recognizes the amazing work happening inside the classrooms at Nitsch."
Since assuming the role of principal at Nitsch Elementary School in 2019, Mr. Frank Ward has been committed to creating an environment that ensures the growth of every student. Under his guidance, Nitsch Elementary has seen remarkable improvements, earning an "A" rating from the Texas Education Agency and all six possible state improvement distinctions in 2022.
Mr. Ward's leadership extends beyond academics. He has been instrumental in building strong relationships between his school and the Nitsch community, creating systems for teacher improvement, and showing extraordinary compassion in times of adversity, as was evident when Nitsch families faced significant loss due to an apartment fire.
"Mr. Ward’s unwavering belief in the promise of EVERY student and his tremendous ability to lead his talented and dedicated team with a sense of urgency to achieve excellent student outcomes is both inspirational and aspirational,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “He is the kind of leader who proves what is possible and lets the results speak for themselves. We are honored to have his extraordinary leadership in our Klein Family and are so proud to see Mr. Ward receive this well-deserved recognition at the national level.”
Klein ISD commends and congratulates Mr. Frank Ward for his steadfast commitment to the growth and continued success of Nitsch Elementary's students, teachers, and families.
