KLEIN, TEXAS—Klein ISD is thrilled to announce that Nadia Paz, a beloved educator in our district, has been named the 2025 HAABE Bilingual Educator of the Year!
This prestigious recognition by the Houston Area Association for Bilingual Education honors outstanding commitment, leadership, and excellence in bilingual education across the Greater Houston area.
“This is my 20th year with Klein. I started in bilingual education when I was a little girl—43 Years ago—and I'm glad to be a pioneer,” Ms. Paz said. “I’m glad to see the big changes, and I can't wait to see more changes that will happen as we continue advancing bilingual education, so thank you, thank you.”
HAABE is a dynamic organization that promotes and advances bilingual and dual-language education. Through professional development, advocacy, and recognition programs, HAABE uplifts educators who profoundly impact the lives of English Language Learners and their communities.
“Ms. Paz is a trailblazer in bilingual education whose dedication, leadership, and impact exemplify what it means to serve with purpose and passion in meeting her students’ needs,” Kathy Vergara, Klein ISD Director of Multilingual Services, said. “We are proud to celebrate her and the lasting difference she makes for our students and community.”
Ms. Paz's recognition is especially exciting for Klein ISD, as she was also recently celebrated as the district's Elementary Teacher of the Year. Her passion for empowering students, fostering bilingualism, and creating a comprehensive classroom environment has touched countless lives, making her an inspiring role model for students and colleagues alike.
“Mrs. Paz exemplifies the very best in bilingual education,” Blackshear Principal Ashley Baker said. “She fosters cultural pride, bridges language barriers, and ensures that every student, regardless of background, has the support and encouragement to thrive. Her dedication, leadership, and heart make her more than deserving of this honor.”
Adding to the excitement, another incredible Klein ISD educator, Ms. Suzan Nguyen from Klenk Elementary, was named one of the top 10 finalists for Excellence in Teaching Elementary ESL. Her dedication and impact on her students' language development and academic growth are deeply admired and celebrated.
The HAABE Awards banquet itself was a vibrant celebration made even more special through the talents of Klein ISD students. This year also marked the first-ever performance by the Klein Collins Mariachi at the HAABE Awards.
Thanks to the Klein Collins CTE Floral Design students, stunning boutonnieres were created for the finalists and beautiful centerpieces for the banquet.
Thank you to the Klein Collins student volunteers who supported event logistics.
Congratulations to Nadia Paz, Suzan Nguyen, and all of the talented students and staff who made this year's HAABE Awards a truly unforgettable event!
