For the 23rd year in a row, Klein ISD has received an “A” rating—Superior Achievement, the highest possible—from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST), recognizing the district’s outstanding financial management and stewardship.

Since the inception of FIRST ratings, Klein ISD has consistently earned the top distinction every single year—an achievement that reflects the district’s unwavering commitment to financial excellence.

“Our finance team’s commitment to safeguarding taxpayer dollars and ensuring strong fiscal stewardship is truly outstanding,” Superintendent Dr. McGown said. “Earning this ‘Superior Achievement’ rating underscores Klein ISD’s steadfast dedication to transparency, responsible resource management, and providing the highest quality instruction and positive outcomes for every student.”

FIRST was established by the Texas Legislature in 1999 and implemented in 2003 to expand public education accountability into the area of financial services. The system’s primary goal is to ensure quality performance in managing financial resources, particularly important given the complexities of Texas’ school finance system.

"Receiving the highest rating on the FIRST Report is a direct reflection of the dedication, integrity, and excellence of our finance team and Klein family,” Chief Financial Officer Dan Schaefer said. “I’m incredibly proud of their commitment to transparency and sound financial stewardship on behalf of our students, staff, and community."

Congratulations to our phenomenal Finance Team for their continued excellence, care, and commitment. Your #KleinFamily is deeply grateful for all you do to ensure the steady, responsible management of our district’s resources, year after year!
