KLEIN, TX – Klein ISD swimmers delivered outstanding performances at the state championships, highlighted by a state title in the Boys 50-Yard Freestyle for Klein Cain and a 2nd-place overall team finish for Klein High.
A standout among the competitors, Klein Cain senior Alejandro Michelena, captured the state title in the Boys 50-yard Freestyle, posting an impressive time of 19.95 seconds to secure gold. He also earned a silver medal in the Boys 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 44.21.
"After four years in Klein Cain Swim and four years qualifying for state, this last meet truly felt like the best chance to become a state champion," Michelena said. "Through a long season, I finally got the job done in the 50 freestyle. Without my teammates, my family, Coach Travis, and Coach Conrad, getting that gold medal wouldn't have been possible. I am also extremely grateful I became Klein Cain's first-ever state champion. This accomplishment was the close of an amazing chapter of my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.”
Klein High’s swimmers also made a strong statement with their 2nd place overall team finish, demonstrating depth and determination across multiple events. Their performance was bolstered by top finishes in individual and relay events, securing crucial points that propelled the team to the podium.
“It is really special to see our athletes achieve their goals after all the hard work they have put in throughout the year,” Klein High Head Coach Jim Svoboda said. “They've constantly supported each other, and seeing them improve has been great. I am excited for what's ahead!”
Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown was overjoyed to learn about our kids’ success at State and commended the athletes for their talents and achievements.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our amazing Klein ISD swimmers!” Dr. McGown said. “Your hard work, determination, and spirit remind us daily why we cherish our student-athletes and the pride they bring to our entire Klein community. Congratulations to all who competed and represented Klein ISD at State and thank you to all of our outstanding coaches and families for your faithful support of our kids.”
With a state champion, multiple podium finishes, and a 2nd place team ranking, Klein ISD swimmers once again proved they are among the best in Texas. Congratulations to all athletes on a phenomenal season!
