KLEIN, TX—Klein ISD is proud to share an update on the Klein Kloset, a districtwide resource that provides free clothing, hygiene items, and basic household essentials to students and families from every Klein ISD school.
Funded through a $14,856 Multi-Campus Grant from the Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) and supported by Brian and Dr. Jenny McGown, along with generous community donors, the Klein Kloset was created to help remove barriers that keep students from feeling ready and confident for school. Students facing homelessness, financial hardship, or crisis are able to receive items that support their confidence, wellness, and academic success.
“The Klein Kloset is a beautiful example of how our community comes together to support the whole student, meeting basic needs so that every child can thrive academically and emotionally,” Klein ISD Director of the Klein ISD Education Foundation Christy Spisak said. “We are proud to fund initiatives like this that remove barriers and empower students to succeed both in and out of the classroom.”
Students are referred to the Klein Kloset through school staff. District social workers oversee daily operations in collaboration with Klein ISD Operations and Warehouse Services, which helped identify a centralized space and repurpose shelving and storage equipment. The project also includes a meaningful partnership with the Klein ISD Bridge Center, where students practicing daily living skills help wash, dry, fold, and hang donated items. This hands-on experience builds independence for Bridge Center students while supporting the Kloset’s mission.
The Klein Kloset builds self-esteem and a sense of connection for students receiving support, encourages parent involvement, teaches kindness and empathy to student donors, and gives Bridge Center students real-world skills that will serve them beyond school.
