At the January meeting of the Klein ISD Board of Trustees, Klein ISD proudly recognized Mr. Mike Egan, a graduate of Klein High School, as the district’s Distinguished Alumnus.

Mr. Egan is a proud product of Klein ISD, having attended Klein High School, where he took photography all four years and developed a strong creative foundation. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with distinction as a Corporal.

In May 2012, while on foot patrol in Afghanistan, Mr. Egan’s life changed forever when he stepped on an improvised explosive device. The blast resulted in the loss of both of his legs and severe injuries that required more than 40 surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation. Despite these extraordinary challenges, Mr. Egan demonstrated unwavering determination and resilience, transforming his recovery into a mission of strength and purpose.

Mr. Egan went on to become an adaptive athlete, competing in the Adaptive CrossFit Games and inspiring countless individuals through his perseverance and leadership. On November 11, 2025, he achieved a historic milestone by breaking the Guinness World Record for the farthest distance traveled in a wheelchair in 24 hours, covering 152.36 miles, shattering the previous record of 113.4 miles.

Beyond setting a world record, Mr. Egan’s effort raised more than $13,000 for ValorFit. This nonprofit organization provides veterans with access to fitness facilities and gyms, supporting their physical and mental well-being.

Mr. Egan was happy to share his story and reflect on the journey that began in Klein ISD classrooms and led to national recognition and continued service to others.

"I’m so grateful for this nomination and the opportunity it provides to shine a light on ValorFit,” Mr. Egan said. “Giving back to the Veteran community is a cause close to my heart, and it’s been a sincere honor to reconnect with my old home at Klein High."

Klein ISD is honored to recognize Mr. Mike Egan as a Distinguished Alumnus, celebrating his courage, resilience, and commitment to service. His journey exemplifies the values of perseverance, leadership, and compassion that Klein ISD strives to instill in all students.

Klein ISD extends its gratitude to Mr. Egan for his service to our country, his dedication to supporting fellow veterans, and his lasting impact as an inspiration to the Klein community and beyond.
