Dear Klein ISD Families,
We hope you were able to enjoy meaningful time with family and friends over Spring Break. As we welcome our students back, we want to thank you for your continued support and for the thoughtful feedback you have shared regarding student safety.
Our Commitment to Safety
As students return to school, we want to provide clear assurance: our commitment to the safety of every student and staff member is unwavering. The enhanced measures we previously shared are being actively implemented across all campuses.
Enhanced Safety Measures
As a reminder, the following additional safety measures are in place across Klein ISD:
Increased police presence at every campus through partnerships with local law enforcement agencies
Expanded, unannounced random metal detector screenings on a rotating schedule
Increased use of K-9 units to conduct random searches in coordination with law enforcement
Law Enforcement Presence
We are especially grateful for our longstanding partnership with Constable Mark Herman, who is working alongside the Klein ISD Police Department to further strengthen police presence in and around our schools.
As a reminder, every Klein ISD campus is staffed with trained, armed law enforcement personnel, ensuring an immediate and visible layer of protection each day. In addition, roving officers patrol our campuses throughout the day.
Safety Audits
The District has long conducted regular safety audits across all campuses—both internally and in partnership with external agencies. These established safety audits remain a critical part of our safety system.
As part of our deep commitment to continuous improvement, especially in school safety, we are currently undertaking a comprehensive safety vulnerability audit. This review, which began earlier this month, is an added layer designed to further strengthen our efforts by providing an additional, independent perspective. At the District’s request, by the end of April 2026, 100% of our campuses will have completed this thorough evaluation by the Texas Education Agency Office of Safety and School Security–further strengthening a safe and secure learning environment for all.
See Something, Say Something
We want to again recognize and thank the students and staff who took action by reporting concerns and following established safety protocols. Their willingness to “see something and say something” directly contributed to law enforcement intervention.
School safety depends on a layered approach. No single measure is enough—but together, these efforts create a stronger, safer environment where students can learn and thrive.
Communication with Families
We understand the importance of timely communication. It has been, and will continue to be, our practice to work in conjunction with law enforcement to inform families of threats in accordance with Texas law, which requires notification “as soon as safe and practicable.”
Partnership and Feedback
We value our partnership with families and welcome your continued feedback at feedback@kleinisd.net. Every message is read and carefully reviewed.
One parent shared with us:
“It may be helpful to communicate a clear expectation to parents that it is okay and encouraged not to hold the door open for others when entering or exiting a Klein ISD school. Sometimes parents do this simply to be polite, but it can unintentionally allow individuals to enter the building without following proper check in procedures.”
Another parent wrote:
“Parents also need to be reminded to immediately close the door behind them when they're leaving the school after exiting.”
We couldn’t agree more. Please wait to be buzzed in after presenting your ID, do not hold doors open for anyone, and ensure the door closes immediately and completely after entering and exiting campuses.
How Families Can Help
We ask for your continued partnership in reinforcing these expectations with your children:
Any student who brings a weapon to school will be arrested, expelled, and face felony charges.
Ensure all firearms in your home are stored safely and securely, completely inaccessible to minors.
Stay actively involved in your child’s life—know their friends, activities, and online behavior. Research consistently shows that strong parent engagement is one of the most effective deterrents to risky or harmful behavior.
Remind your child: if something doesn’t feel right, report it immediately to a trusted adult.
Concerns can also be reported anonymously through the Keep Klein Safe platform at https://kleinisd.net/keepkleinsafe or by contacting Klein ISD Police 24/7 at (832) 249-4266.
We will continue listening and carefully considering the feedback and ideas you provide us and will share the progress of our collective efforts in future updates. Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your shared commitment to keeping Klein ISD schools safe.
