The Klein Multipurpose Center ballroom erupted into applause as Klein Collins High School Art teacher Chad Hardin was named the 2026 Klein ISD District Secondary Teacher of the Year.
“It’s just awesome to have a teacher who really cares about you, your work, and what you want to do,” Klein Collins student Benjamin said. “The great thing about Mr. Hardin is that he doesn’t focus on just one student; he focuses on every student.”
Benjamin’s words reflect what so many at Klein Collins already know. With nearly 19 years of teaching experience, Mr. Hardin’s commitment to his students goes far beyond the classroom. He creates meaningful learning experiences rooted in connection, creativity, and purpose.
One example is his “31-Day Photo Project,” a powerful unit that challenges students to slow down, observe, and find meaning in everyday life. While each student follows the same prompts, the results are deeply personal and unique. By removing barriers, allowing any type of camera, and eliminating social media comparison, Mr. Hardin ensures every student has access to success. Through daily reflection and creative practice, students learn that their perspectives matter and that creativity is not about resources, but about awareness.
“Mr. Hardin represents the very best of Klein ISD,” Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “He removes barriers, builds authentic relationships, and inspires creativity in ways that leave a lasting impact on his students. His dedication, humility, and commitment to putting students first are what make him not only an exceptional educator but a true difference-maker in our schools. We are honored to recognize him as our Klein ISD 2026 District Secondary Teacher of the Year.”
Mr. Hardin inspires those around him by drawing people in with genuine care and support. He consistently puts students and colleagues first, demonstrating a humility that defines exceptional teaching. The time and energy he invests in his students each day is truly remarkable.
He also builds a strong sense of belonging through initiatives like his student art yearbooks, which are beautiful, lasting collections of student work that celebrate growth, creativity, and individual voice. These books not only honor students’ efforts but also create a legacy that connects current and former students, reinforcing a culture of pride and inclusion.
“Words truly can’t describe the impact he has had on us here at Klein Collins,” Principal Kristen Brady said. “I’ve seen him touch the lives of thousands of students, and now I get to experience that impact as a parent. That’s something I will never take for granted. He’s just an incredible human.”
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Hardin connects students to the broader community by providing opportunities to showcase their work in local, state, and national exhibitions. Whether through competitions, museum displays, or regional showcases, students gain confidence, real-world experience, and a sense of pride in seeing their work valued beyond campus.
“Mr. Hardin has inspired me to continue photography even after high school,” Benjamin said. “He’s made such an impact that I’ll always want to come back and visit, even after I graduate.”
For Mr. Hardin, it’s those connections with students that make this honor especially meaningful.
“Winning District Secondary Teacher of the Year in Klein ISD is an incredible honor. After 19 years, it’s the relationships and friendships that mean the most,” Mr. Hardin said. “I am incredibly humbled and blessed. God is good all the time. All glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for the passion and talent to reach students through art. I’m deeply grateful for my wife, Kathryn, and my daughters, Morgan and Kacy; you are my “why.” Thank you to my family, friends, and my Klein Collins Art team for your constant support, and to the leaders and mentors who have believed in me along the way. There are so many others who have poured into my life—please know you’ve made a difference and helped shape who I am today. Thank you for this recognition—I am truly grateful.”
Mr. Hardin’s influence on students, staff, and the broader Klein ISD community is undeniable. By fostering creativity, building meaningful relationships, and advocating for student voice, he exemplifies what it means to be an exceptional educator.
Congratulations, Mr. Hardin! We are grateful to have educators like you in our Klein family.
