Art and writing awards

Four Klein ISD Visual Arts students have earned national recognition in the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, one of the nation’s longest-running and most respected programs for creative teens.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of our four Klein ISD visual arts students who earned National Medals in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards,” Fine Arts Coordinator Leah McWhorter said. “Their dedication to their craft is an inspiration to us all. This honor is a testament not only to their immense talent but also to the fantastic teaching staff within our visual arts program.”

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards has celebrated student achievement in the visual and literary arts across the U.S. and Canada. Open to students ages 13 and older, the program invites submissions in 28 categories and provides opportunities for scholarships, recognition, and exhibition.

Student work is first judged at the regional level, where submissions may earn an Honorable Mention, Silver Key, or Gold Key. Gold Key recipients then advance to the national competition, where they are considered for National Medals and additional scholarships.

In addition to receiving national recognition, Klein ISD’s three Gold Medal winners have been invited to attend the National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall and participate in artist workshops in New York, an incredible opportunity to celebrate their achievement and continue growing as artists.
