Mahaffey Elementary Counselor Ms. Claire Howard has been named a recipient of the Superintendent’s Initiative Award for her Student Ambassador program.
The Superintendent’s Initiative Award celebrates employees who embody Klein ISD’s commitment to excellence through innovative practices and a relentless focus on student and community impact, recognizing their outstanding leadership, innovation, and dedication to student success.
Mahaffey’s Student Ambassador Program, spearheaded by Ms. Howard, creates opportunities for students from kindergarten through 5th grade to grow in their leadership and relationship-building skills. Through this program, students have the opportunity to get involved and strengthen bonds throughout Mahaffey.
“Student ambassadors can be involved in many different activities that show leadership and a willingness to serve,” Ms. Howard said. “This can include giving tours to new students, helping with school and community events, supporting teachers and classmates, and helping organize charitable opportunities for the school.”
Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown was excited to honor Ms. Howard’s contributions to her school and community.
“We are so grateful for Ms. Howard’s creation of the Student Ambassador Program and her vision to create student leaders at Mahaffey who will go on to be outstanding members of our wider community,” Dr. McGown said. “Ms. Howard is an impactful and caring leader who brings out the best in her students. We are so happy to recognize leaders like Ms. Howard who continue to keep their work centered around students and developing them to be outstanding citizens here in Klein.”
Mahaffey Principal Charla Wilson is grateful for Ms. Howard and her impact on the students in her school.
“Ms. Howard is deeply committed to providing our Scotties with skills that they will use the rest of their lives,” Ms. Wilson said. “By leading others and serving the school community, students develop confidence, empathy, and strong leadership skills that will benefit them beyond Mahaffey Elementary.”
Ms. Howard is a leader on her campus, dedicated to growing and equipping student leaders. She cares deeply about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for her community, and it shows in her everyday actions.
“I wanted to make sure that when a student arrives, they have a buddy. No matter what grade level, that can help them feel welcome, warm, like they were meant to be here,” Ms. Howard said. “I feel honored to be recognized, and it motivates me to continue setting a good example, helping others, and making a difference in our school.”
Congratulations Ms. Howard for receiving this outstanding award. You are most deserving and appreciated for your service to our wonderful Klein community.
