For Ulrich Intermediate 8th grader Avlynn Lopez, being a Triple A student comes naturally. Avlynn is a dedicated scholar, cross-country athlete, and stellar artist who consistently strives to be the best version of herself.
Having attended Klein ISD since Pre-K, Avlynn takes great pride in her Klein roots. Since elementary school, she has taken accelerated courses and is currently an honor roll student taking Klein Prep and Gifted and Talented classes, earning Mastery level on all STAAR tests.
Her skills also shine outside the classroom, earning a Gold Key in the Scholastic Writing regional competition for her writing piece, "The Digital Double-Edged Sword."
“What makes Avlynn especially remarkable is her quiet confidence,” Ulrich Humanities teacher Rikecia Carter said. “She doesn’t demand attention, yet her presence is felt in the care she puts into her words, in the way she listens, and in how she steadily pushes herself to think more deeply. Teaching her has been a reminder that some of the most powerful voices aren’t the loudest, but the most intentional.”
Avlynn is an artist at heart. Since she was six years old, she has been drawn to art, and her interest has only grown as she has journeyed through intermediate school. So much so that she is already enrolled in a high school-level Art I course.
“I really like drawing. I feel like I enjoy it the most, along with clay. We’re learning clay now, and it’s really fun. But I've always liked to draw since a young age,” Avlynn said. “I've won multiple Rodeo Art awards every year since the second grade, and Junior Vase Awards, I've won two platinum and two bronze.”
While art came naturally, her love for running took a little more time to develop. Finding her stride in cross country was something she discovered as she entered intermediate school.
“When I first started, I wasn't really into running, but once I started doing athletics, I was really into cross country,” Avlynn said. ”I've done cross country in seventh and eighth grade now, and have won ribbons for it, placing in the top 10. It's a lot of work and can be tiring, but I feel good when I run.”
In addition to her outstanding academic record, athletic ability, and passion for art, Avlynn is also heavily involved in her community. As a member of the National Junior Honor Society, she has participated in service opportunities both in and outside of school, including volunteering with the Harris County Public Library, children’s ministry programs, churches, and local nursing homes.
Whether she is helping with activities, spending time with kids, or supporting others in her community, Avlynn said she enjoys seeing how a simple act of kindness can brighten someone’s day.
Avlynn is still learning how to balance it all, but she approaches each responsibility with purpose. She prioritizes what needs to be done first, then makes time to focus on the areas where she wants to grow, whether that means preparing for a competition, improving as an athlete, or working toward her future goals.
“I’m really trying to challenge myself by taking AP classes, and I’m excited for the opportunity to earn college credits while I’m still in high school. My goal is to get some of the main classes out of the way so I can focus more on my future career, especially my dream of becoming a doctor,” Avlynn said. “I’m excited to see where that path takes me, and I’m really grateful for all the people who have supported me along the way. I’ve been through a lot, but having people there for me has made a big difference.”
For younger students hoping to become well-rounded Triple A students, Avlynn encourages them to be open to new opportunities.
“I would tell them just to venture out and try new things,” Avlynn said. “Sports and art definitely have influenced my life.”
From the classroom to cross-country, the art room, and the community, Avlynn represents what it means to live out Klein ISD’s tradition of Triple A excellence in Academics, the Arts, and Athletics. Her quiet confidence, kind heart, and willingness to try new things continue to make her a standout student at Ulrich Intermediate.
Congratulations, Avlynn, on being recognized as a Klein ISD Triple A student, a scholar, athlete, artist, and servant leader who continues to make the Klein Family proud!
