Klein ISD is proud to announce that all five high schools have earned the 2026–2027 Purple Star Campus Designation, a prestigious state recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to supporting students whose families serve in the armed forces.
With each high school receiving the designation, Klein ISD accounts for nearly 18% of all Region 4 Purple Star honorees and is among fewer than 4% of Texas school systems represented in this statewide recognition.
“This recognition reflects our Klein ISD commitment to honor those who protect our cherished freedom by ensuring military-connected students and families feel welcomed, supported, and valued from the moment they join our Klein ISD Family,” Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. “We are deeply grateful to our service members and military families who sacrifice so much for our country, and it is a privilege to serve their children. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our educators, staff, and school leaders who work together to create a sense of belonging and provide every student with the support they need to thrive.”
Established by the Texas Legislature through Senate Bill 1557, the Purple Star Campus Designation recognizes schools that go above and beyond to meet the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of military-connected students.
“Military-connected students bring unique experiences and strengths to our schools, but we also recognize that transitions, deployments, and the demands of military life can create unique needs for students and their families,” Klein ISD Director of Career & Technical Education and District Military Liaison Deborah Bronner-Westerduin said. “Earning the Purple Star Campus Designation reflects Klein ISD’s commitment to making sure those families know they are surrounded by a great support system. I am incredibly proud of our five high schools and especially grateful for our CTE counselors, who serve as campus military liaisons and have been instrumental in building the systems, resources, and connections that make this support meaningful for students and families. This recognition is something our entire Klein community can be proud of.”
To qualify, campuses must meet criteria established by the Texas Education Agency, including designating a campus military liaison, maintaining a dedicated military family webpage, implementing programs that support student transitions, and participating in activities that recognize and honor military service members and their families.
Klein ISD’s commitment to military families is reflected at each school through dedicated support systems and staff who help navigate transitions and build meaningful connections.
“As a veteran, I understand the sacrifices military families make and the challenges that often come with frequent moves, deployments, and time away from loved ones,” Klein Forest High School Principal Lance Alexander said. “As an educator, it is incredibly important to me that every military-connected student who walks through our doors know they have people who understand and are by their side through it all. Earning the Purple Star Campus Designation reflects Klein ISD’s commitment to honoring the service of our military families by creating schools where students can build connections, find stability, and thrive both academically and personally.”
